Silica: Contemporary Glass and Ceramic Art

May 15– June 1

SILICA is a material traverse of recent glass and ceramic practices; we will view contemporary issues through a number of critical, curatorial, and historical lenses. The course is a dynamic mixture of lectures, field trips, discussions, presentations, and studio visits. Students will interview and conduct research on recent School of Art and Design alumni.

In, Of, and Around Contemporary Craft

June 5-June 22

This course will investigate the nature and place of craft in modern and contemporary culture. Students will traverse a century of craft-based practices in the West, focusing on recent strategies and practices. We will venture into post-war African, Asian, and Native American productions. The class is a lively mixture of lectures, field trips, discussions, artist talks, and studio visits.
